How it all began
In 1950 several members of the Shaston Gardening Association, who shared an interest in flower arranging as a hobby, agreed to form a Floral Group. The first such group had been formed in Dorchester in 1949 by Mary Pope and through her advice and guidance the Shaftesbury Floral Group was started.
In 1978 the group decided that the time had come to be independent and parted amicably from the Gardening Association.
The first constitution was drawn up in 1984 when the official title became The Shaftesbury Flower Arranging Group.

Golden Anniversary
In the year 2000 we celebrated our Golden Anniversary. The club was thriving and we celebrated with an exhibition in Shaftesbury Town Hall followed by a superb dinner, again in the Town Hall, on 25 July. The title of our show was of course 'Millennium Gold'.
Diamond Anniversary
In 2010 it was time to celebrate again and this time we decided to celebrate in the open air, in the grounds of Shaftesbury Abbey to be precise, with a wonderful show over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The title of our show was 'Inspired by Faith'.
Other pictures of our Diamond exhibits and celebrations can be viewed in the Gallery pages.
Platinum Anniversary and COVID-19
2020 was our Platinum Anniversary. We are now the oldest club in the country and wanted to celebrate in style with a summer dinner party for members and their guests. However, our plans were thwarted by a global pandemic in the form of COVID-19 and from mid-March all club activities for the rest of the year were cancelled.
